Medical Education Research Development: 6th Annual Yorkshire Regional Meeting

This meeting is for anyone involved or interested in health professions and medical education research, particularly those who are relatively new to this discipline. The meeting is designed to encourage the development of thoughtful and challenging approaches to research.  The meeting includes an invited keynote speaker, presentations from new and early career researchers, workshops and posters.

Abstract guidelines: New and early career researchers are invited to submit abstracts of papers on any theme related to health and medical education research.  Those whose abstracts are selected will be required to submit a short paper for circulation to conference participants. We will run a writing workshop on Tuesday 25th February 2014, 10.00 - 12 noon; at the University of Leeds to support participants develop their conference paper and presentation.

Abstracts should not be more than 300 words in length and should use the following headings: Context and background, summary of work, summary of results, conclusions and/or implications.  References (not included in the word count) must be included in the abstract and follow the Harvard reference style. Format: Arial, font 12, single line spacing

Deadline for submission of Abstract: Monday 10th February 2014
Deadline for submission of Paper: Monday 28th April 2014

Criteria: A panel of assessors will use the following criteria to select abstracts:
  • Clear explanation of approach
  • Justification of approach
  • Clarity of description of the innovation or research project

Abstract submission: Present your abstract in the following format: Title, Author(s) names, Corresponding Author's name and full address, abstract, and references.  Please make clear if you are submitting the abstract as a short communication or a poster.   Short communication presentations involve a 10 minute oral presentation, plus a further 5 minutes for questions and comment.  The format for posters is a 3 minute oral presentation and 2 minutes for questions and comment.

Costs and registration: The conference will cost £35 for the day.  A reduced fee may be available for un-waged PhD students (please enquire).

The Centre is housed in the Leeds Institute of Medical Education at the University of Leeds.  It provides a focus for research and teaching in the field of professional education.
