Childhood Disability and Social Disadvantage

This presentation will review the evidence on the association between childhood disability and social disadvantage and the scale of disadvantage as evidenced by child poverty, and will consider the impact of government policies on social disadvantage in society.

Colin Low, blind since the age of three, with a background in law and disability theory and experience of serving on the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal, has been a lifelong campaigner for the rights of blind and disabled people.

Colin was Chair of RNIB from 2000-2009, is President of the International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairment, and has undertaken important roles in a wide range of other organisations, including the Disability Rights Commission.
