The PCMD wishes to recruit an Associate Research Fellow to support the work of Professor John Campbell (PCMD, Exeter), Dr Rebecca Barnes (PCMD, Plymouth) and Dr Jamie Murdoch (University of East Anglia). This South West General Practice Trust funded post is available at 50% FTE for 1 year. You will support a qualitative sub-study of the on-going ESTEEM trial - an HTA-funded pragmatic cluster randomised controlled trial investigating the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of telephone triage in general practices across four sites: Exeter, Bristol, Warwick and Norwich. The aim of the sub-study is to understand any observed differences in communicative practices between nurse-led computer-supported telephone triage and GP-led telephone triage for patients requesting same day consultations.
You will assist with practice / provider recruitment and be responsible for qualitative data collection at up to three sites. Alongside managing incoming data, you will be involved in analysing audio-recordings of up to 50 triage calls, half of which will be supplemented by video data documenting the use of a computerised clinical decision support system. You will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.
You will possess a relevant PhD and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. You will have some knowledge and experience of researching talk-in-interaction using conversation analytic methods, preferably in a health care context.

The starting salary will be from £24,520 up to £31,020 on Grade E University of Exeter, depending on qualifications and experience.
